During the war years, workers and employees resisted the inhumane attitude of the German occupiers towards their Jewish fellow citizens. Jews were dismissed, harassed, and deemed “no longer wanted” in public life. A general strike followed, in which employees from Amsterdam, the Zaanstreek, Kennemerland, Hilversum, Weesp, and Utrecht laid down their tools.
